Touch screens use “capacitive technology” which means that for a glove to work with a touch screen it needs to complete a circuit with your finger.
So how do you easily create that circuit when you have your glove on?
There’s a couple of things you can do that go from the cheap to the more expensive. In the end, though, you’re going to want the most effective.
The internet is filled with examples of people bootstrapping their gloves with conductive threads. Certainly an inexpensive method, but time consuming. If you’re handy with the needle then this could work for you. However, if you have a nice pair of gloves, do you want to start poking holes through them, especially if they are leather?
On the other side of the spectrum, you can just buy a pair touchscreen gloves that have fabric already built into the glove tips. These gloves can range from a few dollars to hundereds of dollars. However, you usually get what you pay for. Personally, I have yet to find a touchscreen glove that works consistently. And, if you have several gloves for different activities, do you really want to buy a pair for each of those uses?
That’s why we created ThumbDogs. Rather than sewing thread or painting solutions onto your gloves, or just shelling out big bucks for new gloves, we came up with a way stay connected with your touch screen effectively and efficiently.
ThumbDogs are basically adhesive medical-grade conductive fabric that stick on to virtually any glove. They come in a set of 4 so you can use them on multiple gloves depending on how many pads you want to use on a glove. And, they can be removed without harming your glove fabric.
So, here are the 3 steps to make your gloves touch screen enabled:
Peel, apply, connect. It’s that simple.
